GOLIARD ON TOUR
goliard southeastern music festival
About the Goliard Southeastern Music Festival
 | | Violinist Sarah Kim with students from Ruben Elementary School, Newberry, South Carolina |
The Goliard Southeastern Music Festival, established in 1990, brings some of New York's most talented musicians to the Southeastern region for concerts, master classes, workshops and audience-performer interaction in colleges and universities, communities and schools. A variety of programming is available, embracing serious to humorous and classic to modern repertory, appealing to both adults and young audiences. Performances can be adapted for formal or informal, indoor or outdoor settings. Each season the Goliard Ensemble commissions and performs a new work by their Composer in Residence, who teaches and interacts with each audience. Our next tour, in 2009, will feature Composer-in-Residence Dorothy Hindman, professor at Birmingham Southern University.
Tour Programs Offered
Chamber Music Concert
(Six performers) A combination of classic and contemporary repertory encompassing a broad emotional range, from serenity to hilarity, provides for a lively interaction of strings, winds, voice and piano.
 | | Composer-in-Residence Michael Haigler demonstrates conducting technique at Davidson Performing Arts High School (Augusta, Georgia) |
Mini-Concert
(30 minutes to an hour) Short works and movements are extracted from the full concert and given brief verbal introductions. Often includes performer anecdotes and questions from the audience. Can be adapted for school programs.
Combined Performance
The Goliard artists frequently join with local choruses, orchestras or solo artists in rehearsing and performing previously selected works.
Masterclass
(Piano, voice, winds, strings) The performers combine extensive professional performing and teaching experience with a personable and accessible approach in classroom or public settings.
 | | Students at Ruben Elementary learn how to conduct (Newberry, South Carolina) |
Ensemble Workshop
(Choral, accompanying, chamber music) The special issues and demands of ensemble performance are addressed in "hands on" sessions of music making, group discussion and a few laughs.
Artist Antics & Anecdotes
Surprising and humorous things can happen to performers backstage (or onstage)! The performers relate their true-to-life adventures and answer audience questions.
