Opening Concert of the 2008-2009 Season: The Best of Opera and Broadway |
Saturday, October 18, 2008 at 7:30 pm at the Steinway Reformed Church Our first concert of the season will feature Astoria’s very own Tynan Davis, award-winning mezzo-soprano, assisted by pianist Michael C. Haigler in a program of opera repertoire by Bizet, Mozart and Purcell. The program will also include poignant and humorous repertoire from great Broadway shows including works by Stephen Schwartz, Jason Robert Brown and Stephen Sondheim. A cocktail party for our contributors will precede the concert at 6pm.* |

Holiday Concert |

Sunday, December 14, 2008 at 3pm at the Most Precious Blood Church Don’t miss this festive tradition which features the Goliard Chamber Orchestra and Chorale in collaboration with the Concert Choir of the Most Precious Blood Church, conducted by Daniel Radtke. Choral works by the great English composers George Dyson, Gustav Holst and John Rutter will be performed, and pianist Arielle Levioff will be the featured soloist in Mozart’s Piano Concerto No. 27 in B-flat major, K. 595. The annual holiday carol sing-along concludes the afternoon. |

The Southeastern Tour Concert |
Saturday, March 7th, 2009 at 7:30pm at the Steinway Reformed Church Another annual tradition takes Goliard's principal players on a tour of the Southeastern United States, with a program that features the premiere of a new work. This year’s composer-in-residence is Dorothy Hindman (Faculty, Birmingham Southern College), whose recently completed piece entitled The Pillow Book is based on texts by poet Rebecca Lindenberg. This typically eclectic program will also include songs by Copland, the Piano Trio Op. 70, the "Ghost", by Beethoven, and works by Rossini and Vaughan Williams. Performers: Ricky Ryerson (mezzo-soprano), Rob Scheps (saxophone), Amie Weiss (violin), Lawrence Zoernig (cello,) and Arielle Levioff (piano). |

Music of the Americas |

Saturday, April 25th, 2009 at 7:30pm, at the Steinway Reformed Church This season’s “International Night” will feature rarely-performed music by North and South American composers, in the unusual combination of two flutes, soprano and piano. Featured composers will include Osvaldo Golijov, Angel Lasala, Carlos Guastavino and Christian Hege. Join us for a reception afterwards and sample tasty international treats. Performers: Sarah Hoover (soprano), Elaine Olschesky and Selena Daniels (flutes,) and Arielle Levioff (piano). |
